About Shifting Perspectives
Specialized Training Institute
Shifting Perspective's goal is not only to help First Responders seek out therapy, but also to train Therapist on how to treat this specialized group. Therapists who treat First Responders MUST understand how to interact, identify and provide the care these groups of public service professionals.
When a First Responder arrives on the scene, their first priority is to the safety and well being of the public they serve. These encounters often involve high stress situations where split seconds decisions must be made. In the process, First Responders can find themselves suffering from mental health issues that must be addressed.

Unfortunately, First Responders in need of mental health services are often unwilling to admit there is a problem and seek out getting the help they need. The long history of stigmas surrounding mental illness can cause First Responders to dismiss the signs and symptoms of mental health problems becoming "Therapy Resistant."

Also, First Responder's families can experience the fallout of these mental health issues. These issues have been likened to "Second Hand Smoke." We offer individual as well as family therapy to make sure all family members are cared for.

Specialized Services and Programs
Allies For First Responders

Allies For First Responders Specialized Services and Programs are managed in collaboration with Odyssey Counseling. The program focuses on developing and administering training for mental health professionals, counselors, social workers, holistic practitioners, chaplains, peer support volunteers, dispatchers, medical personnel and paraprofessional counselors. In addition, services are provided by professionals and a peer support team trained to work with and who understand these cultures.

Behind The Badge New Mexico

Behind the Badge New Mexico (BTBNM) is a nonprofit focused on raising money to help first responders and their families receive counseling and ancillary services such as meditation classes. These services are critical due to the acute stress and trauma first responders may experience as a result of their jobs. BTBNM pays co-pays and other costs for treatment for any first responder or their family, regardless of what department they work for or status of employment.

Through BTBNM first responders and their families can access Peer Support Volunteers who are willing to talk and assist when needed.
